WordPress now includes a built-in block editor called Gutenberg, while Elementor is a popular visual page builder plugin. Both can produce excellent websites, but they suit different projects.
Gutenberg
- Built into WordPress, with no extra plugin required.
- Lightweight output and steady improvements with every release.
- Great for content-focused sites and blogs.
- Works well with block themes and full site editing.
Elementor
- Visual drag-and-drop editing with live preview.
- More design controls out of the box, including responsive settings, animations and flexible containers.
- A large add-on ecosystem for extra widgets.
- Adds extra CSS and JavaScript, so performance needs attention.
How to choose
Choose Gutenberg if your site is mostly content, you want minimal overhead and your team is comfortable with blocks. Choose Elementor if you want pixel-level design control, complex layouts and an editing experience that non-technical teammates can use visually.
Keeping Elementor fast
Pair it with a lightweight theme such as Astra, use caching, optimize images and avoid stacking multiple add-on packs you do not need.
